Jake Nava talks about Alicia

Alicia Keys premiered the video for her new single “Un-thinkable (I’m ready)” a few days ago. The Jake Nava directed video, which features actor Chad Michael Murray, was shot in Piru, CA days before Alicia’s live national television debut performance of “Un-thinkable” on American Idol on April 21.

Set in a small suburban town with scenes spanning from the 1950′s to today, the video captures the torment and turmoil of a forbidden love that crosses racial and family ties and questions whether or not true love really conquers all.

“Alicia is a true artist and I was very pleased that she was brave enough to go with this unusual concept. Together I believe we have done something new and important. I hope people are entertained by this video, but that it also makes them think.  Alicia was a joy to work with.  I love her music and aimed to enhance her visual impact in the market place,” said Jake Nava.

Alicia Keys Brings Her New Show to the UK

She is modern R&B’s definitive rags to riches story. Raised on New York’s mean streets, the mixed race daughter of a single mother, Alicia Keys has matched soul influences, personal confession and classical music training to become a 30 million-selling, Grammy
Award-winning star.

In her limousine, travelling to rehearsals for the latest stage of the tour to promote her recent fourth album The Element Of Freedom, Alicia is a sanguine presence, the diva at the centre of an impressively smooth- running company.

“I have an incredible group of people to help put the show together,” says the 29-year-old. “Everybody has their part to play in making it work. It’s a very exciting process. I’m making changes constantly, and it’s like seeingdrawings come to life.” (Read more… )

Alicia Keys Speaks About Lena Horne in Entertainment Weekly

Alicia Keys paid tribute to Lena Horne in an article she wrote for Entertainment Weekly. The singer praised the R&B legend for opening doors and breaching color barriers in a time when the options and opportunities for black women were very limited. Keys became a super-fan of Horne after recently researching the legendary singer’s life. “I just got enraptured with her life and her world.” Keys was asked to play Horne once in a biographical film, and reveals that she always listens to Horne’s music on Sunday mornings, “Rainy Sundays in particular”. She goes on to voice regret over never asking the legend about rumors of her insecurity about her voice. “I’ve never been able to ask her directly, but I’ve read that she was very insecure about her voice. She didn’t feel that she had a beautiful voice. I feel totally differently: she had a very special and unique voice and style and quality. I hear a lot of sadness in her voice. I just love that melancholy tone that she has.” She added, “Lena Horne opened doors for all of us. That’s a major legacy she’s leaving behind.” Keys has a great deal of respect and admiration for Horne for her achievements in a time when “the options and opportunities for black women were very limited”.
