In honor of World Refugee Day, Alicia Keys and her We Are Here Movement created short film titled Let Me In. The film features Keys’ new single “Hallelujah” as its centerpiece. Keys encourages fans to visit her We Are Here site and sign the petition to “stand as one with people forced to flee conflict and disaster.”

“I was stunned when I learned that there are more refugees living in the world today than at any other point in history, and half of them are children,” Keys said in a statement. “Creating this film really allowed us to imagine, what if we were the refugees? What if we were the ones torn from the arms of our families and loved ones? How would it feel if this were happening to us?”

BET insisted their Prince tribute would be better than Madonna’s offering at last month’s Billboard Music Awards, and judging from the list of performers announced today, the network can’t help but make good on the promise.

Sheila E., The Roots, D’Angelo, Alicia Keys, Maxwell and Janelle Monae will perform in honor of the late music icon at the June 26th BET Awards in Los Angeles.

Prince, who died April 21 at age 57, received the BET Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.

Remember when “Songs in A Minor” dropped and everyone was talking about this new soulful pianist with beaded braids and old school flair? Alicia Keys was an instant hit. People admired her uncanny mastery of cadence and melody, her skills on the keys and, of course, her beauty. Six albums and 15 Grammy awards later, Keys is back at it again — but this time her message extends beyond the music.

The singer penned a powerful essay for actress Lena Dunham’s website The Lenny Letter, where she discusses her disgust with the pressures placed on women to be perfect and fit into society’s rigid standard of beauty. In the poignant composition Keys reflects on becoming a “chameleon” in the “harsh, judgmental world of entertainment.” This was all crystalized after sitting for a photoshoot with photographer Paola Kudacki for her upcoming sixth ablum and doing it completely makeup free.

Sporting a baseball hat, headscarf and a sweatshirt, Keys admitted that she wasn’t comfortable with the idea initially, but later realized how powerful the moment made her feel. “I swear is it the strongest, most empowered, most free, and most honestly beautiful that I have ever felt . . . because my initial intentions realized themselves.”

Though Keys is not the first to embrace the bare face trend, the release of her single, “In Common,” and the accompanying photo has encouraged women to embrace the #NoMakeup trend and Keys hopes it sparks a revolution and encourages women to be their authentic selves—struggles, dreams and all.

We all get to a point in our lives (especially girls) where we try to be perfect.

Does it start somewhere in second grade after picture day when you wear your frizzy hair out ’cause your mama says it’s beautiful but all your “friends” laugh at you?

You grab the brush and gel and pull your beautiful big hair back into the tightest ponytail you possibly can to contain your unique hair in a bun — hiding a piece of who you are in order to fit into a picture of what others seem to see as perfection.

Yeah, that’s one moment.
