Rockin’ with Alicia Keys!

On Wednesday, March 17, teens from the Foundation’s “Fuse Rocks the Classroom” program had the opportunity of a lifetime when they met and interviewed Alicia Keys for a segment to be included on their original program, “The Chronicles of Alicia Keys”.

Together with Fuse, Garden of Dreams created Fuse Rocks the Classroom, a program that introduces high school students to the music television industry. Launched in January, 2009, Fuse Rocks the Classroom provides teens with the unique opportunity to develop skills necessary to pursue a career in music television. Students receive hands on experience working with camera equipment, set design, and production crews while working to create their very own music television show.

“The Chronicles of Alicia Keys” will debut during a special wrap party to be held at Madison Square Garden later this spring.

Alicia Keys, Shakira among stars for World Cup concert

Alicia Keys, Shakira, Black Eyed Peas and John Legend will perform at the World Cup kickoff concert in Johannesburg. FIFA announced the lineup of musical stars Wednesday for the concert on June 10, the day before the opening match.

The concert also will feature a strong African presence with South African folk singer Vusi Mahlasela and Malian artists Amadou and Mariam. South African rock bands BLK JKS and The Parlotones also will perform as the country prepares to be the first African host in the 80-year history of the tournament.

FIFA selected Emmy Award-winning producer Kevin Wall to produce the concert at Soweto’s Orlando Stadium. FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke said the concert would celebrate the unifying power of soccer and music.

Alicia Keys Headlines Essence Music Festival

Grammy-winner and multi-platinum superstar Alicia Keys is the latest headliner announced for the 2010 Essence Music Festival set for this 4th of July weekend in New Orleans. The gifted artist joins an all-star line-up, from nine-time Grammy Award-winning singer Mary J. Blige, who is the official spokesperson of the 16th annual festival of entertainment and empowerment, to brilliant new artist Keri Hilson.

Alicia Keys and Jay-Z are to perform together at the Brits

Singer Alicia joins previous announcements Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, Cheryl Cole, Lilly Allen, Kasabian, JLS, Robbie Williams and the collaboration of Dizzee Rascal and Florence And The Machine. Ged Doherty, chairman of the Brits Committee, said: “Alicia is a fantastic addition to the show, I can’t wait to see her and Jay-Z perform one of the biggest songs of the year.”

The Brits take place on February 16 at London’s Earls Court Arena and will be shown live on ITV1 from 8pm.

Alicia Keys backs Brighton Marathon

Alicia Keys is urging people to sign up to run the Brighton Marathon. The Grammy-winning singer is the ambassador and co-founder of the charity Keep A Child Alive, which has teamed up with the marathon.

Alicia isn’t doing the course herself, but is encouraging people to take part in the 26-mile run on April 18. ”As an avid runner myself I know how exhilarating it is to run but to run for a greater cause is the ultimate satisfaction,” she said.

The money raised will help people living with HIV and Aids in Africa and India. ”We will use the funds you raise and save lives, protect children and give hope to Africans and Indians who need our help because Aids has ravaged their communities,” Alicia added.
