Alicia Keys offered a teaser of her new album during her set at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on Friday night. The Grammy-winning songbird, dressed head to toe in black, debuted the uplifting piano-driven number “A Place of My Own” before the sold-out crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. She also played “Empire State of Mind Part II” at the piano, which had the crowd hopeful that Jay-Z would join her. But Alicia ended her set with no Hov cameo, only to return to perform “Empire State of Mind” with him. New York, meet Las Vegas!

Jay-Z closed the show with what could easily be called ‘The Best of Jay-Z’ – and the crowd was on it’s feet for the entire set. He brought down the house with an incredible high-energy medley, from ’99 Problems’ to ‘Encore,’ with Memphis Bleek joining him on stage.

When Stephen Lewis sought supporters for his Hope Rising! benefit concert in Toronto on Tuesday, he could think of no better headliner than Grammy-winning artist Alicia Keys. As the co-founder of the non-profit organization Keep a Child Alive, which provides medicine to families with HIV and AIDS in Africa, she was already passionately involved in the same causes as the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Of course, she’s also a huge celebrity whose star power would help sell tickets for the fundraising event, said Lewis, a former UN Special Envoy for AIDS in Africa. But Keys is also the rare celebrity that puts a cause ahead of her own interests, he added.

Yesterday Alicia performed at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. Switching frequently between several types of keyboards (including a baby grand piano and a strap-on electronic keyboard), she worked her way though signature tune Fallin’, Diary, Like You’ll Never See Me Again, Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart and a dozen others.
