In AIDS Fund-Raiser, Celebrities Will ‘Die’ Digitally

On Wednesday, Kim Kardashian is going to die a little. So is her sister, Khloé, not to mention Lady Gaga, David LaChapelle, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Serena Williams and Elijah Wood.

An ad with Kim Kardashian promotes Buy Life, in which celebrities will temporarily  give up their online lives for charity. That day is World AIDS Day, and each of these people (as well as a host of others — the list keeps growing) will sacrifice his or her  own digital life. By which these celebrities mean they will stop communicating via  Twitter and Facebook. They will not be resuscitated, they say, until their fans donate $1 million.

“Dry your eyes, everybody,” Ryan Seacrest, the “American Idol” host and another participant in this cyberstunt, says in a videotaped “Last Tweet and Testament” that will be posted on his Facebook profile — and appended to a final post on Twitter — sometime after midnight on Tuesday night. “I don’t plan to be dead for too long.” (Read more… )

Alicia Keys Opens Up On Her Impending Due Date

Newlywed Alicia Keys — who tied the knot with rapper Swizz Beatz in August — is due to be a mommy next month, and she can’t wait! She spoke to OK! at last night’s Keep A Child Alive’s Black Ball in NYC, with her happy hubby by her side. “Zen, zen, zen!” laughed Alicia when we asked how she’s staying calm before the big day.

It wasn’t just the glow of love and impending motherhood that had Alicia so ecstatic, as she explained how Buy Life technology — which features bar codes on ads starring celebs like Alicia, that can be scanned in by smartphones to streamline the giving process — is changing the charity scene. You can also purchase a fully scannable “BUY LIFE” t-shirt and invite others to buy life wherever you go. This shirt not only looks good, but every scan does the world good. Go to Buy Life’s website to buy a t-shirt & donate.

Alicia Keys Sets $1 million Target for Keep A Child Alive

To Alicia Keys, celebrities have become commodities that can be tapped for good. To that end, the Brooklyn native will Thursday announce a new campaign to raise more than $1 million for her AIDS charity, Keep a Child Alive, at its annual Black Ball New York charity event.

Deemed “Buy Life,” the organization will recruit celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Katie Holmes, Justin Timberlake and Kanye West, as well as Ms. Keys and her new husband, producer Swizz Beatz, to model for an advertising campaign placed in magazines, bus stops and on the Internet. (Read more… )
