Alicia attends the premiere of the Showtime documentary “Keep a Child Alive with Alicia Keys”

Yesterday Alicia attended the premiere of the Showtime documentary “Keep a Child Alive with Alicia Keys” in New York City. During the event  U2 singer Bono shared that he was ‘terrified’ the first time he met Alicia Keys. While Keys talked about being pregnant and empathic when filming her documentary about AIDS in Africa, the U2 singer chimed in and said: “She’s scary, isn’t she? She’s scary.”

Bono went on to say that Keys has “lioness energy” and that her role as a new mother won’t allow her to “let other mothers suffer.”

Alicia performs at the 2011 Black Ball

Alicia performed yesterday at the 8th annual Black Ball Gala in support of Keep A Child Alive. She shared the stage together with some of the guests including Usher and will.I.Am. Check our gallery for more pictures from the event.

Alicia and Swizz at the 8th Annual Black Ball

Alicia Keys performed hit songs, covers and collaborated with Usher and will.i.am at her charity’s annual event, but the singer also played the role of a charmer.

During an auction to raise money for Keep a Child Alive, Keys took off two 18-carat gold bracelets and put them up for bid. Once someone agreed to buy the items for $14,000, a light bulb seemed to switch in her brain. “Wait a minute, I have an idea. I was just thinking, since I have two that we could sell one to you for $14,000, and one to you for $14,000,” she said, pointing at two different people. “Isn’t that a great idea?” The crowd cheered her on.

Alicia Keys To Honor George Harrison At Celebrity Charity Concert

Alicia Keys will host her annual Black Ball for charity in New York next month, in honor of former Beatle George Harrison.

Keys’ charity, Keep A Child Alive, will benefit from the concert, which will feature appearances by Usher, Norah Jones, will.i.am and Mary J. Blige, as well as Gary Clark Jr., Jay Sean, Midival Punditz with Karsh Kale and Alicia Keys herself.

This year marks the fortieth anniversary of George Harrison’s Concert For Bangladesh, the first time artists came together for a concert to benefit single cause. Today, the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF is a joint undertaking between the Harrison family and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to support UNICEF programs that provide lifesaving assistance to children, including health, education, nutrition and emergency relief. In the tradition established by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar, The George Harrison Fund for UNICEF continues to support UNICEF programs in Bangladesh while expanding its influence to include other countries where children are in need.

Harrison passed away in November, 2001, but has left a lasting legacy on the history of celebrity charity giving, and Keys’ concert is the latest example.

The concert takes place on November 3 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC. More information and your chance to win tickets can be found here.

Alicia Keys headlines Toronto AIDS benefit, says no contribution is too small

Check out the gallery from last time when Alicia performed at Hope Rising! benefit concert in Toronto.

When Stephen Lewis sought supporters for his Hope Rising! benefit concert in Toronto on Tuesday, he could think of no better headliner than Grammy-winning artist Alicia Keys. As the co-founder of the non-profit organization Keep a Child Alive, which provides medicine to families with HIV and AIDS in Africa, she was already passionately involved in the same causes as the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Of course, she’s also a huge celebrity whose star power would help sell tickets for the fundraising event, said Lewis, a former UN Special Envoy for AIDS in Africa. But Keys is also the rare celebrity that puts a cause ahead of her own interests, he added.

Swizz Beatz recently revealed that he and his wife Alicia Keys have adopted an African village. In an interview with VladTV.com, Swizz explained, “We adopted…Suweto. We went there…just to film the process of a particular lady and her daughter. She’s a beautiful lady with a beautiful spirit. She’s HIV positive. We were filming the before-and-after effect of taking [certain] medications.”

Swizz continued, “They were filming giving the lady all these gifts and presents and food…I’m just there to support [Alicia]. I didn’t know that my wife did so many things in Africa. Like her face is in pictures in hospitals that she’s funded…I was like, ‘wow.’”

“I’m just sittin’ there, kickin’ it, talking to the locals. Mind you, they have no water, they have no heat, they have no electricity, they have tin houses. So I’m speaking to this one guy…and he was like, ‘This is beautiful what [you're doing], but we have no water, we have no this, we have no that. We have no tools. How can we help better ourselves?’” (Read more… )
