Alicia Keys Gives Gary Clark Jr. The ‘Best Studio Experience’ Ever

Up-and-coming blues rock prodigy Gary Clark Jr.’s new album “Blak & Blu,” released October 22, covers a range of sounds — from R&B to old school country blues. But it turns out that “Blak & Blu” isn’t the only album you will find the Austin, Texas, guitar slinger wailing away on. Clark Jr. will be featured in a song called “Fire We Make” on Alicia Keys’ soon-to-be released Girl On Fire record.
So just how did this down-home blues rocker cross paths with the multi-platinum, nine-time Grammy Award winner?
Keys was more than impressed with his skills. “She liked my playing and wanted to hear more of it and she called me up and asked me if I wanted to lay down some guitar on her album. I was like, ‘yeah.’ ”
And let’s be honest, who would say no? Clark Jr. had much praise for Alicia, saying, “She’s just sweet, genuine, people. I mean, she’s Alicia Keys. I’ve been a fan for a minute. She’s very professional. I went in and I was like, ‘What do you want me to do?’ and she was like, ‘This is the song. You just do what you do, and we’ll see what happens.’ It was one of the best studio experiences I’ve ever had.”
